Nowadays it seems many people hate "artists" like Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber. Most of them just do it out of conformity or to fit in with the "cool" gang of people. But most of those people don't realize the true reason why these so called "artists" are leading the music industry, and music in general into a stripped down and corporate affair.
A true musician (which I'm not) appreciates the imagination and creativity that goes into creating a musical piece. Most modern artists within specific genres use what is called Auto-Tune which is an audio software that recognizes the deviations in a person's singing voice's pitch and automatically aligns it perfectly with the nearest tone or semi-tone. Basically it covers up a singer's ineptitude in attaining the proper pitch.
Is it really right to call these people artists? Especially since they don't even have the required talent or ability to perform their craft without the aid of supplements? I could name a hundred different reasons why these people only serve to appeal to the casual listener. They use exploitative videos to get attention, dress up provocatively, engage in shallow behaviour on stage etc.
Even sadder is the fact that true artists, who are actually passionate about their work and not just about fame or money, have a much more harder time in reaching out to the masses. They are forced to settle into the underground where they have a few dedicated but respectful fans who realize their endowment.
To conclude, I vehemently believe that the music industry is on a downward spiral. And I don't expect this to ever change.
